[brœ̃s'vik], Léon, französischer Philosoph, * Paris 10. 11. 1869, ✝ Aix-les-Bains (Département Savoie) 18. 1. 1944; seit 1909 Professor an der Sorbonne, vertrat einen an I. Kant orientierten erkenntnistheoretischen Idealismus, den er kritisch gegen die empirischen Wissenschaften wendete. Die metaphysischen Systeme spiegeln nach Brunschvicg jeweils die zeitgenössischen Wissenschaftssysteme; ihr Wandel ist somit unter wissenschaftsgeschichtlichen Gesichtspunkten erforschbar. Brunschvicg schuf eine maßgebende Pascal-Ausgabe (»Œuvres complètes«, 14 Bände, 1904-14).
